Abstract:

calculate some thermodynamic properties of molten polymers including specific volume and isothermal compressibility (S.M. Hoseini, Physical Chemistry & Electrochemistry, 2 (2014) 56-65). This work extended that EOS to predict the volumetric properties of some molten ethylene copolymers including ethylene/1-octene, ethylene/1-butene (xethylene equal to 0.8543 and 0.563), ethylene/propene. The ability of the extended EOS was checked by comparing the results with 738 literature data points for the specific volumes over the temperature range from 422.35-505.89 K and pressure range from 0.1 up to 200 MPa. The average absolute deviation (AAD) of the calculated specific volumes from literature data was found to be 1.12%. The isothermal compressibility coefficients, κT have also been predicted using ISM EOS. From 180 data points examined, the AAD of estimated κT was equal to 8.48%. Our calculations on the volumetric and thermodynamic properties of studied copolymers reproduced the literature data with reasonably good accuracy. Equation of state, Copolymer melts, Thermodynamic properties

An Analytical Equation of State for Molten Polymers

An analytical equation of state (EOS) developed by Ihm-Song-Mason (ISM) has been applied tocalculate some thermophysical properties of molten polymers including Poly (1-octene) (PO), Poly (vinylmethyl ether) (PVME), Poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC), and Poly (styrene) (PS). Three temperature-dependentparameters of the ISM EOS have been determined based on the alternative scaling constants, dispersiv...

An Analytical Equation of State for Saturated Liquid Refrigerant Ternary Mixtures

In this work an analytical equation of state has been employed to calculate the PVT properties ofternary refrigerant mixtures. The theoretical EoS is that of Ihm, Song and Mason, which is based onstatistical-mechanical perturbation theory, and the two constants are enthalpy of vaporization ΔHvapand molar density ρnb, both at the normal boiling temperature. The following three temperaturedepende...

An equation of state for argon

An analytical equation of state was applied to calculate the thermodynamic properties for argon. The equation of state is that of Song and Mason. It is based on a statistical-mechanical perturbationtheory of the hard convex bodies and can be written as fifth-order polynomial in the density. Thereexist three temperature-dependent parameters: the second virial coefficient, an effective molecularvo...

Modified Equation of State Applied to Refrigerants

An analytical equation of state has been previously modified by Papari et al. for representing the volumetric properties of molecular fluids. However the performance of that EOS has not been yet well investigated for refrigerant fluids. This study extended that equation to 19 liquid refrigerants to predict their densities at isothermal and saturated states. Two temperature-independent parameter...
